I'm laying on my girlfriend's bed, stealing her laptop as I reflect back on this past year, 2010. But then again, not just this past year, but years previous.
I lost friends, but I gained new ones. While it does hurt to know that people whom I considered to be close turned out to be much farther away than I ever anticipated, there isn't much I can do. I can apologize for whatever I did to cause a distance, I can try and rekindle some kind of friendship by reminding them and recreating a special moment that signified our friendship. But overall, my efforts have failed. I mean, if it wasn't meant to be, then it simply wasn't meant to be.
Went through plenty of hardship in 2010. I lost three very dear friends to death. The first due to a drunk driver hitting her car, another due to a broken heart because the first died, and finally the third due to consequences of war (although he was killed because he startled someone, and their reaction was shoot first ask questions later.)
My girlfriend and I had some difficult times, but we pushed through and we are not stronger than we ever have before. I love her so much, with all my heart and I hope that one day soon, I will be able to stand at the front of the aisle, and watch her walk down wearing the white dress.
The world has changed since my last journal entry, since my last Deviant upload. We have a black president, the economy has crashed, I've graduated high school, I've started a new job.
What does 2011 have in store for me, have in store for the world, that we will never know until the events that will be history have come to unfold, but we can hope and we can wish for the best. We can only hope this war ends and our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters all come home where they belong. That they get the help that they need and so rightfully deserve. That our society can finally come to terms and fully accept and respect people's lifestyles and differences without judging and condeming. Our economy starts to flourish once more, and the cost of gasoline drops back down once again.
These are all goals that we mmust strive to have come true. One person can struggle to make a change, but nothing will happen unless we come together, as a human species to stop the ignorance, the hate, the turmoil. Too much to ask? Some might say so...but there are always the ones that say it's just enough, or maybe not even enough. It's something you have to decide for yourself, not let your friends or family push you or expect you to make a certain choice, but your own choice.
